Kim Mansfield - Technical Consultant/Assistant Coach

Kim founded Piedmont vbc travel volleyball during the 2004-2005 season. In that first season his 16's team enjoyed much success earning a trip to JP nationals in Salt Lake City. The success continued in the years to follow with each of his teams earning trips to JO's the hard way. In each of the next 3 seasons, Kim's teams earned bids at national qualifiers. In 05/06 his 17's finished 2nd at the Northeast Qualifier, in 06/07 his 17's team won the Colorado Crossroads Qualifiers and in the 07/08 season his 18's team finished 2nd in the Big South Qualifier Open division.

Kim started his sports career in 1966 by playing competitive table tennis at a national level, winning numerous events throughout the United States.  In 1967, Kim was a scorekeeper at the YMCA National Volleyball Championships in his hometown of Mansfield, Ohio and the love of the game took hold. Kim played at the YMCA with the adult volleyball team throughout his high school years.  He was selected as a Golf All American at Ashland College. Ashland did not have a men’s volleyball team, but Kim practiced with the women’s volleyball team and later became a coach’s assistant and was the head coach for the Ashland JV squad from 1973 to 1974. In 1975, Kim started an adult volleyball program with the state YMCAs in North Carolina. Kim played on the professional golf tour from 1978-1980.  In 1991, he took over the Central Carolina Area Volleyball Association (CCAVA) JO volleyball program that helped catapult Asheboro High School into a 3-A State Championship program from 1994-1998 winning one state championship and finishing runner-up in another.  CCAVA joined the Piedmont Volleyball program in 1996 and Kim began coaching Piedmont teams in 1999.  Kim has been involved with the North Carolina High Performance Volleyball program since 2004.

Professionally, Kim has been involved over the years with the High Point YMCA, has been a furniture executive and is currently involved in the insurance business, specializing in Long Term health care insurance. This summer, Kim has begun competing in golf tournaments again.
