To Sportsplex Participants

This notice provides clarification on recent stories that were circulating about the Greensboro Sportsplex. During the City's budget presentations information about closing the Sportsplex to daily City operations are being reviewed. However, what’s important to note, is that the City will continue to operate the facility for special events and tournaments, which involve outside contractors and vendors.

 

Under this scenario, the Sportsplex would not be open for drop-in or some Parks and Recreation programs. The City is also continuing to explore privatizing the facility.

Spring 2013 Coed 4s League

 OFFERING A/B-LEAGUE FOR THIS SESSION

Organizational Night:
Monday, March 11, 2013 at 7:30 PM

League Nights:
Mondays, March 18,25 April 1, 8, 15
Play begins at 7:30 PM

League Tournament:
May 22, 2013

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A TEAM YET, you are welcome to show up (as many do) on the first night.  All teams who show up that night will be put into the first night's schedule and will be able to play.  Individuals will be able to form their own teams as well and play.

Team fee: $160 (up to 6 players/team)

Individual fee: $40 (individuals will be placed on teams)

Nights of play: traditionally Mondays

Play times: Matches usually begin at 7:30 PM; each team is guaranteed at least 2 matches (2 sets each) per night of play

Match play: Teams play each match as only 2 sets; teams accumulate set wins/losses which seed them for the end-of-league tournament

Substitutes: Teams that do not have at least half of their rostered team present for a match will be awarded a forfeit but will be allowed to add fill-ins (from reffing team or other teams) in order to play at least; teams may bring their own subs if they know that certain members of team will not be present; in order for a sub to participate with a team on tournament night, he/she must have played with that team previously on at least one league night

League Rules:

  • ***WE PREFER THAT PAYMENTS BE MADE AS A TEAM***--suggest that a team captain be in charge of getting payments from team members and paying at front desk of the Sportsplex (all checks made out to the "City of Grrensboro")
  • Coed 4s A/B League: 4 players on the court--if 4 players on court, 2 MUST be female; if 3 players on court, only 1 MUST be female (there are no stipulations on persons of opposite gender touching the ball before it can be sent over the net)
  • Men's/Women's 4s league: 4 players on the court; on a men's team, only ONE female is allowed to be on the court at any time
  • Call your own fouls (ball handling, net play, etc.) but also ABIDE BY REFFING TEAM'S RULING ON NET CALLS, IN/OUT CALLS, FOOT FAULTS, DOUBLES, ETC.
  • Coed 4s A/B League: Men’s height net (may play reverse coed for a week at beginning of season--this means women's height net, men cannot block & to attack men must leave the ground completely from behind the 10' line)
  • Men's/Women's 4s league: each gender will play on the appropriate height net for the league in which they are playing
  • 2-game matches with rally scoring (point per play) games to 25
  • Tournament matches will be best 2 out of 3 games (first 2 games to25, third to 15 if necessary
