To Sportsplex Participants

CityLogoTo Sportsplex Participants;

This notice provides clarification on recent stories that were circulating about the Greensboro Sportsplex. During the City's budget presentations information about closing the Sportsplex to daily City operations are being reviewed. However, what’s important to note, is that the City will continue to operate the facility for special events and tournaments, which involve outside contractors and vendors.

Under this scenario, the Sportsplex would not be open for drop-in or some Parks and Recreation programs. The City is also continuing to explore privatizing the facility.

(Latham Park is located off of Wendover Ave. just 1.7 miles west of Hwy 29 North.

Directions:  TRAVELING WEST on Wendover from 29 N, pass Moses Cone Hospital and go approx 0.6  mile and turn left on Parkway Ave at the light--just past the Dunkin Donuts--then immediately veer right onto Cridland Rd.  The nets will be set up between the tennis courts and the baseball field.

Directions:  TRAVELING EAST on Wendover, the park is located aprox 0.7 mile past Battleground Ave exit on the right.  Turn right onto Parkway Ave at the light, then immediately veer right onto Cridland.  The nets will be set up between the tennis courts and the baseball field.

Traditionally, Sportsplex volleyball open play has been held on Sunday afternoons (2-6 PM) and Wednesday evenings (6-10 PM).  Usually, the peak season for indoor open play is mid-fall through early spring.

Players interested in coming to play should always call the Sportsplex on the day you plan to come to make sure there are nets available for that day.  Groups interested in showing up to play on days other than Sunday/Wednesday can always call ahead (it requires money to actually reserve/rent a court) to see if the schedule shows open nets available.

The cost for open play participation is currently $5 per person (in-city residents).

During the spring and summer months more play takes place outdoors on grass and sand courts.  This year, the Sportsplex will be hosting some outdoor open play opportunities in grass and sand as well.  Check back here in May for more specifics on grass and sand volleyball open play.
